I came across a leadership course that talked about a business portfolio. It said that the portfolio should contain the main goal of the organization. All the resources of the company should move the portfolio forward. The flow chart below shows how the course said this should work.
This coming year we want to look at bringing the Kingdom of God to campus. Scripture talks about the Kingdom of God being here. It is said that the Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed.  A part that I love is that mustard is practially a weed.  If it gets started, you can’t get rid of it! It grows underground and sprouts up in places you wouldn’t expect. This is the Kingdom Of God! If it can get started and be put on display, there will be no getting rid of it.  It will grow so big that there is room for everyone. There is a discussion that the Kingdom of God needs 3 parts:
1) Finger of God 2) Call God, Lord 3) Obedience
1) The Finger of God: God initiates His Kingdom.  We see this in Exodus when Pharoah’s magicians see the plagues and says “this is the finger of God.” We all have #1 in our favor. 2) Call God, Lord: You need to be acknowledging God, otherwise it is your kingdom that you are putting forward. 3) Obedience: You need to be doing as God asks of you.  How could it be God’s Kingdom if you don’t follow what God asks? There is typically two ways we fail in bringing Kingdom.  If we have 1 and 2, we have people who proclaim belief, but don’t help the alien, orphan, or widow. They claim belief, but they don’t show it in their lives and it wouldn’t attract others to the kingdom.  If we have 1 and 3, we have people who do the action of the kingdom, but are pushing forward what they want as it overlaps with God. I often think of the amazing work of Bill Gates and the millions he has given through his foundation to rid the world of disease and poverty. It’s great stuff!  It is the heart of God for His people to do this kind of thing.  Yet, Bill Gates isn’t a follower of God. It doesn’t take away from his great works, but it will stop him from bringing the Kingdom of God. We want to find people where they are and partner with them in bringing the Kingdom to UAlbany. We will find some people who call God, Lord, but it doesn’t show in their life.  We want to have a place for them and help them forward. We will find people who care for the things of God, but don’t care for God.  We want to have a place for them and help them forward too. As we work with both sides of belief and action, there will be overlap.  With that, it will pull people from each side together and people who have only belief, will start to have action, and those who only have action, will start to grow belief. All of that to say, our next flow chart is how we hope to work this next semester.
